Former Teacher of the Year Nominee Busted for Drugs

A school teacher was one of two people arrested in in drug bust in Haverhill, Massachusetts, Thursday.

Haverhill Police say they executed a search warrant at the third floor of 119 Webster St. at 9 p.m.

Police arrested two people. Jim Alizee, 25, is being charged with possession of a Class B substance with intent to distribute, possession of a Class C drug and operating a motor vehicle without a license.

Amanda Roche, 27, who is a teacher in the Haverhill School District, is also facing drug charges. She was released on $500 bail at her arraignment Friday, with the conditions that she remain drug and alcohol free. She is due back in court on May 7. Prosecutors said she was not the target of the police investigation.

According to police reports, authorities were actually targeting Roche's former boyfriend, Alizee, whom she still lives with. Alizee was allegedly driving Roche's car when police stopped him Thursday and found cocaine. After arresting him, police  executed a search warrant at their apartment and allegedly found cocaine, baggies, money, scales and iPhones. Police say Roche was crying and adamently denying any involvement with the drugs.

Officers arrested her after finding more cocaine and pills in her bedroom.

Alizee is being held without bail and will be arraigned Friday.

The public school system was notified and Roche, a fourth grade teacher at Pentucket Lake Elementary, will be placed on administrative leave pending investigation.

According to The Eagle-Tribune, Roche was nominated as a 2014 YMCA educator of the year.
