Shoppers Stay Local for Small Business Saturday

The day after Black Friday is Small Business Saturday, a push to get shoppers to consider ditching the national chain stores for a day to support the local stores, especially on so called Main Streets.

With the holiday shopping season in full swing, Boston Mayor Marty Walsh is hoping to get people in the spirit of shopping, especially at small businesses across the city.

The mayor has a "5 on Main" Challenge to push shoppers to make purchases at small businesses at least five times for the holidays.

"It's vital to the community if we don't have a Main Street then we lose the community and we need that," said Karen Power, Dandelion's Florist.

For all businesses, a late Thanksgiving shortened the traditional holiday shopping season this year so the pressure is even greater.
