Funeral Services Announced for Boston Police Officer

(NECN) – Funeral services for a Boston Police officer who died in a medical emergency have been announced.

Officer Dennis O. Simmonds, who was assigned to the Youth Violence Strike Force, was rushed to the hospital Thursday afternoon. He passed away later at the hospital.

The highly decorated 28-year-old officer had served with Boston Police for six years.

Officer Simmonds was recently honored at the Boston Police Relief Association Awards Ceremony, earning the Department's highest honor, the Schroeder Brothers Memorial Medal for his bravery during the Watertown shoot-out following the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings.

Those looking to pay their respects at the wake for Officer Simmonds can do so on April 16 from 4-8 p.m. at the Cartwright Funeral Home at 419 North Main St. in Randolph. The Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, April 17 at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church at 519 North Main St. in Randolph.
