Cooler, drier air is working into New England Thursday after a cold front triggered downpours and localized flooding Wednesday, but the flooding risk isn't quite done yet.

Most of the daylight hours of Thursday will be dry, with just a few spotty morning showers along the south coast. Otherwise we'll generally find mostly cloudy skies in Southern New England, with a blend of sunshine and clouds in Northern New England.

Things change after dinner though, when a cluster of showers, downpours, and perhaps even a thunderstorm pushes into New England from the Midwest. Most of this cluster of downpours will move through Southern New England, and like past days, the rain will come down heavily at times. Some localized areas will pick up a quick 1-2". Combine that with what's fallen in downpours already this week and renewed pockets of flash flooding are possible.

    Clouds, Storms Later

[NECN] Weather Forecast: Clouds, Storms Later
Rest of Today (Thursday): Mostly cloudy, shower south. Highs in the 70s. Overnight Thursday Night: Scattered downpours south, mostly cloudy north. Lows in the 50s and 60s. Friday: Mostly sunny. Highs in the 70s and 80s. (Published Thursday, July 9, 2015)

For that reason, a Flash Flood Watch is in effect for all of Connecticut, most of Rhode Island, and parts of Western Massachusetts.

Remember, it's never safe to drive through water covered roadways. It's often impossible to know just how deep the water is or if the road has been washed out.

The downpours will exit before the commute on Friday, and sunshine will build in during the day to produce a bright end to the work week.
