(NBC News: Jay Gray) - A state of emergency has been declared in three states as the Gulf Coast braces for Tropical Storm Karen.
Forecasters say the storm could reach hurricane strength by the time it makes landfall Saturday night somewhere in Louisiana.
Winds topping 60 miles per hour, heavy rain and flash flooding are expected. A storm surge of two-to-four feet is also expected along the coast.
