(NECN) - Massachusetts residents will no longer be required to cross state lines to purchase Powerball tickets.
Tickets for the multi-state lottery went on sale in the Bay State on Sunday. The first drawing to include Massachusetts tickets will be held Wednesday.
State Treasurer Tim Cahill said the game will draw an estimated $25 million in annual revenue.
"That's just a direct result of having Powerball -- it draws people to those mom and pop convenience stores," Cahill said. "They may buy other lottery products, but they may buy other things. It's a win win for Massachusetts."
Before Sunday, states could sell either Powerball or Mega Millions, but not both.
Lottery officials want to see how cross-selling goes before possibly establishing a national lottery, which could be up and running by 2011.
