A hazmat team is investigating an incident at an apartment building in Marlboro, Massachusetts after a man was found suffering a medical emergency Tuesday afternoon. Officials say various materials have been found - but it's not clear what it all is at this stage.

The Marlboro Fire Department was called to the Sheffield Court apartments on Boston Post Road Tuesday afternoon. Inside one apartment, they found a man suffering from a medical emergency as well as a large amount of unidentified chemicals in various containers, both powder and liquids. State and federal authorities were called in to help out.

"Some materials you can have in homes. Some you cannot. We don’t know what a lot of these are at this point so that identification process is going to help up further our understanding of what’s going on here," State Fire Marshal Peter Ostroskey said.

The building was evacuated - and 10 families were relocated to a nearby hotel.

Video from the scene showed multiple people in hazmat suits going in and out of a third-story apartment in a larger apartment complex.

Authorities have declined to describe the condition of that man who was taken to the hospital from the apartment.

They hope to let the other residents back into their apartments this evening. As of Wednesday afternoon, investigators have been working the scene for around 24 hours.
