2 Men Sentenced in Fatal Shooting During Robbery

Prosecutors say Nicholas Ruiz-Gomez and another person were found lying on the floor at a Springfield duplex on Aug. 17, 2012

Two Springfield, Massachusetts, men have admitted to their roles in the 2012 shooting death of a man during a robbery.

The Republican reports 28-year-old Miguel Diego entered the plea Monday to conspiracy to commit armed robbery. Joseph Watkins pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter.

Diego was sentenced to three years in state prison. Watkins received 10 to 12 years.

Prosecutors say Nicholas Ruiz-Gomez and another person were found lying on the floor at a Springfield duplex on Aug. 17, 2012. Ruiz-Gomez was taken to the hospital where he died. The other person was injured in the leg.

Prosecutors say residents had said two men entered the duplex armed and masked. They say the men were later identified as 27-year-old Watkins and 25-year-old Ashton Hennessey. Hennessey was sentenced to prison last week.
