A Massachusetts woman facing manslaughter charges for allegedly using text messages to encourage her boyfriend to kill himself appeared in court Thursday.
Michelle Carter has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death of her boyfriend Conrad Roy back in 2014.
She allegedly sent Roy text messages encouraging him to kill himself. Eventually he did take his own life.
In court the judge denied a defense request for money to hire an expert to tell them about Celexa, an anti-depressant that Roy and Carter were apparently taking that can cause suicidal thoughts teens.
Carter's attorneys plan to appeal.
The defense also learned it will be getting 20,000 documents which represent the contents of Conrad Roy's Facebook page. Carter's attorney maintains that Roy talked about taking his own life on social media and not just to his girlfriend.
The next pretrial conference is set for December 19. The judge is still looking to start the trial in February.
