Police in Middletown, Rhode Island, say a child died and two other children were injured following an early-morning fire that also sent five police officers to the hospital for smoke inhalation.
The fire at 566 East Main Road broke out at midnight.
Police were able to rescue two children from the first floor of the building.
Firefighters found a third child on the second floor when they arrived, who WJAR says later died at Hasbro Children's Hospital.
The children were siblings, ranging from 7 to 17-years-old, according to WJAR.
The two children rescued from the first floor were taken to Newport Hospital in unknown condition.
Five police officers were treated and released from Newport Hospital for smoke inhalation.
