    Severe thunderstorm watches and warnings have been issued across New England as active weather hits Friday afternoon.

    A line of strong to severe thunderstorms is crossing New England from west to east. The storms are capable of wind gusts past 55 mph resulting in downed trees and scattered power outages. In addition, we have torrential downpours with localized flash flooding and, as always, frequent lightning is an ongoing threat.

    Storms begin to decrease in intensity as they arrive in eastern New England as the sun goes down, but the threat for severe weather is here through 10 p.m.

    The front generating this stormy evening is still here Saturday.

    Though there is not as much threat for damaging storms, Saturday is another warm and humid day with only limited sunshine. Spotty storms are possible at any time with high temperature in the 80s.

    Much less humid air moves in from Canada Sunday and Monday with sunshine and highs in the 80s, the dew point cools to the 50s.
