(NECN) - A man who allegedly wielded a potato disguised as a gun during a robbery attempt has been arrested.
WPRI reports that Gary Deming, 34, was arrested on first-degree robbery charges.
Authorities say the Cranston, R.I. man pretended he had a gun when he demanded money from a convenience store and a dry cleaner on April 21 in Providence.
The manager of the convenience store chased him off with a baseball bat; a dry cleaner employee gave him a fake $20 bill.
WPRI reports Deming is also accused of breaking into his sister's home on the same day as the alleged potato incidents. She told police he took a purse, $100 in cash and a debit card.
