Mass. State Police confirm male was killed in Brockton crash

One person was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Brockton, Massachusetts, police confirmed late Sunday night.

According to Massachusetts State Police, a male pedestrian was struck and killed. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene.

A close friend identified the victim as Carlevan Yancey. The 31-year-old was well known in the community and worked at a local grocery store.

The crash took place in the area of 662 Belmont Street outside of a convenient store around 9:30 p.m., according to state police.

The victim was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The state police crime scene unit and accident reconstruction team were assisting Brockton Police.

Police have not released a description of the suspect. The investigation is ongoing as police continue to review surveillance video.

Police say the suspect's vehicle likely sustained severe front-end damage.
