Woman Hit by Car in Wayland, Massachusetts

A 35-year-old woman was seriously injured and transported by medical helicopter.

A 35-year-old Wayland, Massachusetts woman was seriously injured when she was hit by a vehicle on Friday.

According to Wayland Police, the accident occurred at 11:39 a.m. on Main Street near the intersection of School Street. The vehicle was headed southbound when the collision occurred and the pedestrian was not in a crosswalk at the time of the accident.

The woman was transported to Beth Israel Hospital in Boston by medical helicopter. Police said she sustained serious injuries, but they did not appear to be life threatening.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.

The operator of the vehicle was a 73-year-old woman from Maynard, police said. The names of the victim and the driver of the vehicle are being withheld pending notification of family members.

Main Street was closed at School Street for approximately 40 minutes as a result of the accident.
