The ACLU of Massachusetts is filing a lawsuit on behalf of a Guatemalan migrant who was separated from her 8-year-old daughter at the U.S.-Mexico border.
The mother, Angelica Rebeca Gonzalez-Garcia, is seeking asylum in Massachusetts after she suffered abuse and trauma in her homeland, according to the lawsuit. She and her daughter had not been separated before their departure to the U.S. in May, the lawsuit states.
During their conversations since their separation, the child allegedly received injuries and illnesses due to her stay in the immigration detention.
