A woman was sent to the hospital after a fire broke out in a home in Beverly, Massachusetts, Friday, according to authorities, and her family is trying to find a man who stopped to help.

The fire occurred at about 6:52 a.m. on Berkeley Avenue, the Beverly Fire Department said. Kate Robertson is the niece of the homeowner and lives down the street.

“I heard the sirens going down the street, knowing this is kind of a dead end, I immediately shot up and I was thinking where are they going? I looked out my bedroom window and I could see flames coming from my uncles house.”

Robertson said her uncle got her aunt out of the burning home to the front steps. That's when the Good Samaritan appeared, talking her across the street away from the flames and asking her if she was OK.

"Do you have any medical problems dear?” The man can be heard saying on Ring surveillance footage.

Neighbors said the man was on his way to a medical appointment when he saw the fire.

“He used to be a fireman, is my understanding. He is the one who walked across and got her to step out," neighbor Tim Harney told NBC10 Boston.

Robertson said her aunt has second and third-degree burns. Her uncle is OK, as is a pet parakeet that was rescued.

“I think right now we’re in shock, we’re numb. He’s numb, we’re trying to go through the process of things you never think of," Robertson said.

The family is hoping they can track down the stranger who rushed over to help so they can thank him properly.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The family thinks it may have started during the refilling of a butane lighter.
