(NECN) - Nestled between a pizza restaurant and an apartment building in White River Junction, VT, is a small school, still in its infancy. The Center for Cartoon Studies is where a number of aspiring cartoonists have come to hone their skills at telling stories through illustrations and text.
The school opened in 2005 and has been accepting about 20 students a year. So far, one class has graduated from the 2-year program. The next graduates will be a bit different - they will receive certificates or Master of Fine Arts degrees. The CCS was recently approved to award MFAs.
In its 2.5 years of existence, the school has attracted prominent cartoonists to its staff, board and lectures. It has also attracted a wide variety of students. NECN's Anya Huneke has more.
