Review: Woodshed

(TV Diner) - A handsome carved wooden sign, noted we had arrived at The Woodshed in Moultonboro, New Hampshire, where we saw this large nineteenth century barn and farm house.

We found charming seating, in a number of different rooms, that were all softly lit with hurricane lanterns. Our table was in the spacious loft overlooking the main dining area and fieldstone fireplace.

The antique interior was framed with photos autographed by the likes of Michele Pfeifer and Sean Penn who have dined from the sophisticated American menu.

We started with the Baked Onion Soup that was generously topped with a delicious Swiss cheese covering the bread and broth--totally faultless. The Shrimp Cocktail presented large and fresh shrimp, paired with a mild, but tasty, horseradish sauce ---very enjoyable!

The bite in the Cajun Pork Tenderloin, was subtle and did not distract from the flavorful meat. A pineapple salsa, topped the Chicken Gourmet that was marinated in teriyaki. Again, the meat was incredibly moist, tender and flavorful. All entrees came with a large fresh greens salad, huge baked potato and generous serving of fresh vegetables for added value.

The alluring dessert menu tempted us, with the silky flourless cake and ganache, appropriately called the Chocolate Decadence---absolutely satisfying! And, the Ice Cream Puff was just as sumptuous, with a fudge sauce that was undeniably delightful.

Service at the Woodshed was exemplary. Prices varied in range and were a great value, with appetizers $6 to $8 and entrees coming in at $18 to $27 and desserts averaged only $5.

The Woodshed is one of New Hampshire's hidden finds and well worth the ride for the quiet and pleasant ambience, carefully crafted upscale menu, hospitable staff and great prices, attracting the likes of Michele Pfeiffer, Sean Penn AND TV DINER!!
